Netiquette and Safety Rules

  • Don't copy information from the Internet. Always cite your sources.

  • Share your Internet expertise with others.

  • Keep the area around your computer clean. Don't eat or drink when you are using the computer.

  • Keep your e-mail messages short and to the point.

  • Always include a brief subject with your e-mail message.

  • Don't forward personal e-mail without author's approval.

  • Don't use bad language or write hateful things about another person.

  • Don't "flame," or criticize, anyone online.

  • Capital letters means you are "SHOUTING."

  • Never use a computer to harm others or to snoop around their files.

  • Never use a computer to steal or destroy.

  • Don't give out personal information, such as your address, telephone number, or school name and address.

  • Keep your password secret.

  • Tell your teacher or parents if you come across any information or an online user that makes you feel uncomfortable.

  • Never agree to get together with a person you've met online without getting permission from your teacher or parents.

  • Follow your school's acceptable use policy.

  • Never assume your e-mail messages are private. Others may be able to read your e-mail.
