Using AppleWorks to Create Web Pages
Creating Web Pages with AppleWorks
1. Open AppleWorks 6, new Word Processing Document or an existing document.

2. Type a heading on the page, add pictures and format like you would in any word processing document.

3. If you want to create a live link to the Internet, Type the words you want to appear on your page, i.e. Great Sites. Use Netscape to locate the URL for this site, copy and paste it into a document (or the scrapbook) for use in the following step.

4. To activate your link and make the link live, follow these steps:

Highlight the text you want to make a live Internet link. Click the button with the globe

Type (or copy and paste) the full URL into the box provided: (Click OK)

If you want to add an e-mail link, follow the same steps as you would for a web site with one exception---enter mailto:yourname@address.net for the URL instead of an http URL, i.e. mmccright@east-buc.k12.ia.us

In the File menu, pull down to Save As. Navigate to where you want to save your htm file and gif files. You will probably want to create a new folder and name it something descriptive. All htm and jpg files need to be stored in the same folder!!

Next, name your web page a name that ends in .htm , for example: myclass.htm Keep it all one word lower case. Pull down where it says AppleWorks to HTML and click the save button.

5. If you want to go back and change your html document in any way, you first need to open AppleWorks 6, go to File and Open. In the window that appears, pull File Type down to HTML, then click Open.

6. Edit your document as needed, then be sure to go through the save process described above, replacing your old html and OK to overwrite images. If you feel more comfortable working with basic HTML in Simple Text, use these steps:

    1. Launch Netscape and click on "File" and Highlight "Open Page". Select your document. It will now be opened as a web page.

    2. While viewing your page in Netscape, go to "View" and highlight "Page Source". This will show you your page with all of the HTML commands in place. Do a "Select All" (Apple "A") and Copy (Apple "C").

    3. Launch "Simple Text" and paste the copied text onto a new document.

    4. You will need probably need to put a "Title" on .
