Students will study the relationship between the people of earth and their physical environment. Special emphasis will be placed on map skills, interaction between nations, humanityÕs impact on the earth and geographyÕs impact on how we live our daily lives.

World History I is a study of the history and development of different regions that make up the modern world. This includes the study of the development and beliefs of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and Confucianism. Areas studied include ancient Greece and Rome, Byzantium, Medieval Europe, China and Japan.

Students will study how the new government worked and the problems encountered by the leaders of this era.  Included will be the study of how America expanded from sea to sea and events that led to the Civil War and reconstruction eras.  The western frontier, industrial age, reform of politics including events in the Progressive era leading up to WWI will also be covered.

 

 

75     **WORLD HISTORY IN FILM

In this class, we will be studying World History from 1815 to the present.  We will be looking at the major events that run through this period.  The major topics studied will be the end of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars, the rise of the German and Italian states, the end of Czarist Russia and the rise of the Soviet Union, as well as the rise of the communist countries in the 20th Century.  We will use movies to study these major themes and compare how the movie relates to history itself.  Some of the movies we will watch include Anastasia, Animal Farm, etc.  Where else can you study a subject through the use of movies?

 

 

67        STREET LAW            

GRADE LEVEL:  11+

This course functions as an introduction to the legal system. It thoroughly examines the trial process and gives a general knowledge of both the legal system and the responsibilities of parties involved in the system. It covers both criminal and civil law, important Supreme Court Decisions, and utilizes mock trials for hands on experience. The course is helpful to those interested in careers in the criminal justice or legal professions.

Students will study the period of American history from the end of the Progressive era to the present time.  Significant events studied include World War I leading World War II, the Cold War and Korean conflict, the social upheaval of the 1950Õs and 1960Õs, the Vietnam conflict, and present day.                                                  

 

 

62        CONSUMER CONCEPTS

GRADE LEVEL:  11+

This is a general survey course dealing with various subjects such as supply, demand, unions, money and banking, world trade, and present economic problems.  The course also attempts to apply economic theories to consumer needs, even at the local level.

 

64        PSYCHOLOGY          

GRADE LEVEL:  11+

NUMBER OF TRIMESTERS:  3

                                                                                                              

This class is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.  The areas of focus are:  thinking critically with scientific psychology, behaviors (why we do certain things), learning (classical and operant conditioning), memory, sleep and dreams, psychological disorders, therapy, and motivation.

 

 

59        ADVANCED PSYCHOLOGY

GRADE LEVEL:  11+

NUMBER OF TRIMESTERS:  3

RECOMMENDED:  3.0 cum GPA or B average in EB Psychology course.                                                                

This course is designed for the college bound student.  This is the equivalency of a one semester entry level college psychology course.  We will be moving on a quick pace to study the 14 main subject areas that are covered on the AP test.

This course deals with the interrelationships between humans in groups.  Areas covered include culture and cultural differences, socialization and the processes that influence socialization, social organization and change, and human relationships.  Subject matter will be beneficial to both college bound and non-college bound students.

This course is required for all seniors in order to graduate.  The subject covers the Constitution plus the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the government at all levels.  Special emphasis is placed on politics during the entire semester.  Political discussion and dissent will not only be tolerated, but actively encouraged.
