MATH
26 ALGEBRA I
GRADE
LEVEL: 9
NUMBER OF
TRIMESTERS: 3
REQUIREMENTS: TI-83 Plus or TI-84 Plus calculator,
inch/metric protractor ruler (available in HS office), pencil
Algebra I is the basis for any advanced math, and is becoming a prerequisite
in many industrial jobs. Most of
the concepts students are familiar with before algebra are used and developed further. Algebra I is an introduction to the
principles and techniques of modern algebra which include inequalities,
equations, factoring, graphing, relations, functions, quadratics equations, and
as a systematic investigation of the real number system.
31 INFORMAL
GEOMETRY
GRADE
LEVEL: 10+
NUMBER OF
TRIMESTERS: 3
RECOMMENDED: Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 or a combination
of Algebra I and Pre-Algebra.
REQUIREMENTS: Scientific calculator, inch/metric
protractor ruler (available in HS office), pencil, 3-ring binder with paper
The purpose
of this course is to study the geometric properties of polygons, circles,
solids, parallelism and perpendicularity from an informal approach. It will apply these properties to practical
situations. It will also include a
review of algebraic and math computational skills. This course would be quite helpful for
entrance to vocational and/or technical schools. This
course will not apply as a math credit for a four-year college.
30 FORMAL
GEOMETRY
GRADE
LEVEL: 10+
NUMBER OF
TRIMESTERS: 3
RECOMMENDED: Algebra I
REQUIREMENTS: TI-83 Plus or TI-84 Plus graphing
calculator, ruler, and protractor
This course
is for those planning to go on to further schooling, especially a four (4) year
college. The purpose of this course
is to study the geometric properties of polygons, circles, solids, parallelism
and perpendicularity. The student
will learn the meaning of proof in hopes that he/she will rely more on reason
than guess work. This course also
provides a practical setting for a review of Algebra 1
27 ALGEBRA
II
GRADE
LEVEL: 11+
NUMBER OF
TRIMESTERS: 3
RECOMMENDED: Algebra I, Teacher approval
REQUIREMENT: TI-83 Plus or TI 84 Plus calculator
Algebra II
consists of fundamental operations, first degree
equations, products factoring, factional equations, functions, relations,
graphs, exponents, radicals, imaginary numbers, and quadratic determinants. Algebra II should be taken by any
student that is thinking about going to college.

NUMBER OF
TRIMESTERS: 2
OFFERED: Tri 2-3
RECOMMENDED: Algebra I
REQUIREMENT: TI-83 Plus or TI 84 Plus calculator
The purpose
of this course is to provide a sound and useful introduction to probability and
statistics. This course is aimed at
the student who plans to enter such fields as economics, business, education,
psychology, sociology, biology, medicine, mathematics, engineering sciences, and
ag-business, which now require statistics for their effective pursuit.
34 TOPICS
IN MATH
GRADE
LEVEL: 11+
NUMBER OF
TRIMESTERS: 3
RECOMMENDED: 2 years HS Math
The purpose
of this course is to cover and review Algebra topics directly related to real
world situations. This course will
help strengthen studentŐs math skills.
Topics will include Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Trigonometry,
Discrete Math. This course will not apply
as a math credit for a four-year college.
32 PRECALCULUS
GRADE
LEVEL: 11+
NUMBER OF
TRIMESTERS: 3
RECOMMENDED: Formal Geometry and Algebra II, Teacher
Approval
REQUIREMENT: TI-83 Plus or TI 84 Plus calculator
The purpose
of this course is to prepare the student to take math in college. It will include an in- depth study of
trigonometry and analytic geometry.
It will also have a strong introduction into Calculus. When the student finishes this course,
he/she should be ready to take first year Calculus course.
