Buccaneer Senior Award
BUCCANEER SENIOR AWARD
(Created for implementation beginning with 2004 graduating class)

The Buccaneer Senior Award will be presented by the East Buchanan Booster Club, on an annual basis, to each qualifying Senior athlete as a participation award in recognition of each athlete’s high school athletic involvement during their time at East Buchanan High School. The awards will be presented at the annual East Buchanan Athletic Banquet.

1 point = 1 full season of participation in a sport at East Buchanan High School

  • 16 points or more = Gold Award
  • 10-15 points = Silver Award

    The athlete must complete the entire season, start to finish, to be eligible for 1 point for that season. Four (4) points may be earned for each sport, except 5 points may be earned for baseball and softball. To earn a point for baseball or softball between the eighth grade and freshman year the athlete must numeral or letter at the high school level.

    Athletic points will be awarded for participation in East Buchanan athletic programs only, or sports with another school for which East Buchanan has a co-operative participation agreement. Participation at another school for any high school sport in any high school competition year will not be recognized for this award.

    If an athlete cannot finish a sport they have started due to an injury or illness (which does not need to be related to participation in that sport) one point will be awarded to that student for the sport in which they were participating at the time of the injury or illness. If the athlete cannot participate in future sports due to the same injury or illness, a point will not be awarded for the sports missed.

    Any athlete suspended from any sport for any reason must continue to actively practice with the team for the remaining duration of the season to receive a point for that season. If the athlete does not actively practice for the remaining duration of that season they will not receive a point for that season.

    Athletes, athletic managers, cheerleaders and student trainers are eligible for the Buccaneer Senior Award.

    Any Buccaneer Senior Award dispute must be presented to the East Buchanan Booster Club at any monthly meeting. The East Buchanan Booster Club members will hear the dispute, discuss and vote. Exceptions will be addressed on a case by case basis by the East Buchanan Booster Club. The East Buchanan Booster Club vote will be final with no other options for appeal.

    Prior to 2004 the Booster Club presented a male senior athlete of the year and a female senior athlete of the year.
