2005 Jakway Septemberfest

Septemberfest Fun in the 1800s

On September 11, hundreds of people flocked to the defunct town of Mudville (now occupied by Jakway Park, south of Aurora) for a day filled with old-time music, heritage craft demonstrations, games, contests, and food. Activities centered around the Richardson-Jakway Historic Site during the annual Septemberfest celebration. Winners in the annual buffalo chip Toss were Jenna Borcherding of Hampton (youth) and D.J. Thompson of Winthrop (adult). Dave Hansen of Masonville was the winner of the goat milking Contest. Many prizes were given away in raffle drawings, including a hand-made quilt by Micki Sand-Cohen, a welcome log carved by Ed Cook, and woven rugs by a Hazleton group. The festival raises funds for the continuing restoration of the site.

The Barn Owls were a new musical group added to the noteworthy performers during Septemberfest.
