Ford's Assembly Line

Ford’s Assembly Line

Why I think Henry Fords idea is important to America and the world is by making the first assembly line for the model T he was able to mass produce a quality automobile at a faster rate and sell for a more affordable price. Now the Car was not only available to the rich it was available to most any working American. It was a whole new way to produce cars.

Henry Fords Model T assembly line began At Highland Park. Henry Ford had a dream to produce an automobile that most people could afford, it worked good, and also was efficient. He did this with the Introduction of his Model T in 1908. The car opened a new time period for for personal transportation. It was driven easily, it was long lasting, and handled most terrain well. The car became an Immediate success. Now that the car was becoming so popular people started demanding the car. So ford opened a huge factory in Highland Park Michigan. The plant opened in 1910. Three years later the demand became so great He had to come up with a new way to build the Model T. In 1913 he developed the fist continuous moving assembly line. The workers remained in place, adding one component to each as it move down the line. A conveyer belt quickly Delivered parts to the workers that was timed carefully to keep maximum efficiency on the job. the new assembly line revolutionized the manufacturing of automobiles by cutting down the assembly time of each Model T, in effect lowering costs. Ford’s new idea made his company the largest car manufacturer in the world.

The assembly line was a huge success, but it had its drawbacks. The physical and mental strain on the workers trying to keep up with work schedules, made it hard for Ford to keep employees. So Ford had to come up with another system to to keep employees. Ford’s five dollar a day profit sharing plan of 1914 provided a new way to keep his employees working hard. Fords Ideas started a new way to make cars and today all car companies use his idea.

The significance of his operation is that he revolutionized the way people make cars without him people would make cars one by one and cars would be more expensive and there would be less on the road.
