
Truthfully, the reason I chose Helen Hunt Jackson is because her name was listed under Helen Hunt, so I thought it was Helen Hunt the actress. Also Helen Hunt the actress wasnt even my first choice. It was Annie Oakley. But Annie Oakley was already chosen by the time I was able to chose. But instead of changing my person I decided to just do the report hoping to learn something.

Helen Hunt Jacksons birth name is as a Helen Maria Fiske. She was born during the first term of Andrew Jacksons Presidency.Helen Hunt Jackson (Helen Maria Fiske) was the daughter of Deborah (Vinal) Fiske and Nathan Welby. Helens Father was a Congregational minister, an author, and professor of Latin, Greek, and philosophy at Amherst College. Her mother was also a writer.
In the year 1852, Helen married a United States Army Captain by the name of Edward Bissel Hunt. He later Became a major in the Army.In 1863 Helens husband died from suffocation while testing an innovative underwater naval vessel or weapon of his own design.
Helen ventured to California in May of 1872 and used Indians native to the area in her writings. She then journeyed to Colorado Springs, Colorado In search for a cure for a Respiratory illness in the winter of 1873-1874. There she met William Sharpless Jackson, a Pennsylvania Quaker. On October 22, 1875 they were married.
Since childhood, Helen had been interested in the Native Americans. Her book, A Century of Dishonor, published in 1881, was a historical account of the U.S. government's mistreatment of the Native Americans.
In June of 1884 a severely fractured leg left Jackson a cripple. Even though she was handicapped she went to visit her Hispanic friends in California. Helen was always hopeful up till the day she died.
