Clara Barton came from a small family.She was the youngest of five children. Her brother ad sisters were responsible for her education. At the age of 15, Clara Barton was so well spoken and so well read that she became a teacher.In 1853 Clara went to New Jersey and began in first free school. There she raised enrollment in Brodentown's school from 6 to 600.
In 1853 she stop working as a teacher and worked in a Patent Office in Washington D.C. She did this until April, 1861 in which the Civil War broken out.
In 1869 Clara's health began to trouble her. At the age of 56 Clara started another new career at the Red Cross. She had quit this job on June 16, 1904.
On April 12, 1912 Clara Barton had died in Maryland. She was at the age of 91.
