Size: 1,812,990 sq km in area. East and west: 1,770 km and north and south: 1,287 km.
Interesting Information: Petroleum deposits in the Bay of Campeche and off the coasts of Texasand Louisiana. Shrimping is important in the shallow coastal waters. Oil and natural gas occur along the coast and off shore on the continental shelf.
