Location
The Yangtze River is located in the Tanggula Mountains in Qinhai Province, China, with its source in the Plateau of Tibet to its mouth on the East Sea of China.

Size
The Yangtze is the largest river in China and the third largest in the world, at 3915 miles.

Name
It was named after the ancient Fiefdom of Yang. In China they refer to it as “chang chiang” meaning long river.

Interesting information
  • The Yangtze River was very important to the ancient Chinese civilization.

  • It has no ice all year around.

  • Tons of people travel the Yangtze River every year; in fact the volume is higher than all other rivers in China combined.

  • It is China’s most important river.

  • It has lots of hydro-electric energy dams it supples most of China’s energy.
