Indian Ocean
Location: The Indian Ocean is located between Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Southern Ocean.
Size: It is about 29 million sq. miles. It is 6,140 miles north and south and 6,200 miles east and west. It is half the size of the Pacific Ocean.
Discoverer: There were a lot of civilizations back then so they dont really know who discovered it, but Vasco Da Grama sailed across it in A.D. 1498.
Climate: It has a tropical climate.
Intereresting Information: The average depth is 12,600 feet. The greatest depth is 23,376ft. The highest tide is 36 ft. The lowest is 2ft. There are three different types of wind belts: monsoons, trade winds, and prevailing winds. There are many islands in the Indian Ocean. The ocean floor rises in many areas. These places are called The Shallows.
