The Black Sea; The Friendly Sea

Location: The black sea is located in Eastern Europe. It is not directly connected to the Atlantic Ocean, but is connected to it through the Bosphorus Channel. It is a land locked sea being surrounded by Russia, Ukraine, Maldova, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.

Size:
The Black Sea is 175,000 square miles. It’s lowest depth is 7,328 feet.

How it got it’s name:
The early Romans called the Black Sea the Friendly Sea because of it’s calm fertile waters. It gets the name Black Sea from its dark sea waters.

Other Interesting Information:
The Black Sea is a very fertile with small marine animals such as plankton. It is fertile because it has two esential nutrients for marine plants and animals. They are phosphorus and nitrates.
