Location: The black sea is located in Eastern Europe. It is not directly connected to the Atlantic Ocean, but is
connected to it through the Bosphorus Channel. It is a land locked sea being
surrounded by Russia, Ukraine, Maldova, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
Size: The Black Sea is 175,000 square miles. Its lowest depth is 7,328 feet.
How it got its name: The early Romans called the Black Sea the Friendly Sea because of its calm fertile waters. It gets the name Black Sea from its dark sea waters.

marine animals such as plankton. It is fertile because it has two esential nutrients for marine plants and animals. They are phosphorus and nitrates.
