Location-The Missouri River starts in Three Forks, Montana and flows into the Mississippi River ten miles north of St. Louis.
Size-The Missouri River is 2,315 miles long.
Discovered by-The Missouri was discovered by Jaques Marquette and Louis Joliet in 1673.
Name:The Missouri was first called Peki-tan on early French maps.
Interesting information: The Missouri is formed by the Madison, Jefferson, and Ballatin Rivers. Its drainage basin occupies 529.4 square miles of the great plains. 2,550 of this is in Canada. There are 27 Indian tribes along the Missouri River. There is a deeper river channel from Sioux City, Iowa to the Mississippi river. The Missouri River is nicknamed Big Muddy because of the amount of solid matter it carries.
